Into Guyana--First Few Days.

We are now on our way to a new adventure in the land of Guyana--northern country in South America. We are headed for the community of Linden, about two hours south of Georgetown (the largest city in Guyana, the better shopping for groceries).

Two pictures from the airplane as we fly into Guyana--Demerara River and the dense forests (jungles)......September 24, 2009.

At the airport; getting ready for customs..................And the highway that takes us to Linden (gorgeous).

Here are the Leishman Couple whom we replaced in Linden and the Apartment building (upstairs) where they lived. The missionary elders took their place when they left. We had served with them in Trinidad and enjoyed them there; so, our few days with them training were really enjoyable, as well as "trying" to learn our new area. And the first glimpse of our new little home--it does have three bedrooms, one bath, kitchen/dining and a living room (perfect!).

We took a trip into Georgetown to do paperwork and some grocery shopping with the Leishmans. We met the other Guyana couples at "New Thrivings", a super chinese food buffet. We were able to eat there for $1500 each (about $7.50 US).
From left to right: Sisters Hymas, Collins, Leishman, Lingren, Handly, and Evans (soon to leave for home). Then in the Elders picture: Handly, Leishman, Collins and Evans. Elders Hymas and Lingren were sitting at another table. Then look at the buffet (! Ymmmm!)

And just a side-note: "Look what we found shopping!" Exactly! First time on our mission, we bought a Thirty-Two Pac of Diet Caffeine Free Cola--this is just one/half of the bunch--had to include this picture. We are inside our home now--the living room. and looking into the kitchen area.

Yep! Elder Collins found some sugar cane to chew on!.............our kitchen/dining area.

Putting up the mosquito net in our bedroom--yes, we do have mosquitoes at night.

The "wash room" ......................................and our office space.

Not too long and we had our first guests in our home: Xiana Emmanuel, Delicia Benjamin, and Russzen Blair came visiting (all in the same familly)--so, we played Jenga with them. Cute kids!
