Arrival in St. Lucia--March 16, 2009

We have had the special privilege of being transferred to the island of St. Lucia (14 miles wide X 27 miles long)--hilly/tropical/pretty beaches/blue water/cruise ships/snorkeling/sweet people who have loved us into the Castries Branch--need we say more!

We were welcomed at the airport by the Hymas Couple, Branch President De' Beauville, his wife, Justina, and Lee & Matthew. Elder and Sister Hymas gave us a quick trip to acquaint us with our part of the island, a boat /snorkeling trip, and a wealth of information in two days; and we were "ready" (that word is loosely used) to serve the people of Castries.

Our new home is on the main floor, bottom balcony on the right hand side--we eat on this balcony most breakfasts and lunches, overlooking gorgeous green lawns, coconut palms, guava trees, and even pine trees--with the Caribbean Sea in the background. The beach is about a five minute walk from our home--NICE!

Some of our first "house guests"......

We have a rather steep driveway down to our new home. And the road to our home (through the wind shield) deserves the Mitsubishi Pickup we drive. We live below Agatha and her cousin, Jennifer (our "landladies")--they take good care of us.

We hang our clothes outside, under the house--no dryer; love the smell of our sheets and towels! Elder Collins does most of our hanging.

And now a few pictures of the beach below our home--where we walk most of our walks--and have snorkeled a few times.

We are enjoying our new home!

  1. Hi,
Love your blog! It is fun to see where you are and that you are enjoying the experience. We have a dryer, but it doesn't work well, so we hang all our clothes out. They do smell great. I used to hang diapers and I loved how white the sun kept them and the great smell, wow, does that date me! I also love the smell of the sheets and the feel that first night. Your home looks beautiful. I loved the Jenga pictures!

  4. Hey you guys!!!
Loved to see your blog pictures and read the narration. What a wonderful place you are serving in at this time (and maybe for the rest of your mission). I am amazed at the number of young people in your branch. We just welcomed our first YW in our branch and now have a YW advisor as well. We look forward to growth as two more primary girls turn 12 within the next 4 months. Isn't life grand!!! The Olivers
