Spending time with our Elders---and a Transfer!

Brother Murray and Brother Narine (both temporary missionaries) playing "Drafts"--a game like checkers while they waited for our Monday Morning Transfer Breakfast of Sourdough Waffles....this next picture adds Elder Stewart and Elder Gossai; and their waffles!

Elder Stewart's 23rd Birthday (October 25th) was celebrated a day late with Brother Murray at our house. For some reason, no pictures of Elder Gossai and Brother Narine.

Make a wish!

Visiting/and teaching with Elder Stewart and Brother Murray.. He will leave this transfer to go home for a few weeks and then onto the Dominican Republic to attend the MTC to become "Elder" Murray. They started teaching Alicia the week they were to leave us for transfers (!)

Then came October 28, 2009--transfer day. We got "blanked" !!!! All four were replaced. This is Brother Narine, Elder Gossai, Brother Murray, Mark Rodney, and Elder Stewart on their balcony...ready to leave early morning! Brother Mark Rodney (our assigned Group Leader in Linden) was riding with us to Georgetown this day. He will go on his mission next year.

Brother Narine will leave for the MTC at the next transfer date. Elder Stewart is headed for Georgetown to be with Elder Scott (we were with him on St. Vincent).

Elder Gossai is carrying Brother Murray's bird and fishing pole (!) And here's Brother Murray.

Brother Murray claimed his treasures--the parrot was given to him by Oral, a member of our East Linden Group. And he only got to go fishing once!

Do we have everything? And Everyone? Good thing we have a Toyota Pickup!

Trip to Rockstone and Anarika

About an hour West of Linden--we took a Saturday (24-Oct-2009) to visit Rockstone and Anarika with Elder and Sister Handly....... Some of the country along the way.

We headed first to the "Annual Fish Festival" in Rockstone....Lots of fisherman with their trucks; but not a lot of action until the next day--Sunday(!) So we chatted with the people and walked the shoreline.

Whoa! We found an Anaconda in a barrel!

This cute lady and her little girl showed us the snake and wanted their picture taken.

The Essequibo River is NICE!

And the bridge we decided NOT to cross (!) So--back to Anarika.

Martina in Anarika...........Middle of the day, but they just had to "wet a line"!

Sister Handley and I took pictures, watched, waited and just enjoyed! It was a great day!

Fun Pictures in Linden

A Surprise Car Washing by our Elders Murray and Stewart!

Hmmmm! Locked the keys in the truck at the Church--helpers are Simeon and Mark. We finally had to ride the ferry across the river, take a bus to home, and drive the car part-way to Georgetown where we met the Handlys with some extra keys--and then back to the truck--late night!

District Fun Day in Georgetown; we took 40 + of our Linden Group in a bus and two cars....Elder Collins found a friend. And so did Manouska Vyfhuis up in the tree above.

Alice, her mother, friend and a great help at our picnic..........and one of the many green parrots! (can you see him?)

At one of the Friday Night Activities: good to the last lick!

Our First Zone Conference in Georgetown

October 12, 2009, we traveled the 1 1/2 hours to the La Grange Chapel in Georgetown for our first Zone Conference in Guyana. The Chapel is quite large and really nice; reminds us of one in the States. Everyone was in their places ready to start at 9:00 AM.

Three new couples and with Elder and Sister Hymas, make only four couples (Hymas, Lingren, Handly, and Collins) in Guyana now--total foreign missionaries of twenty! We have some of the local Guyanese serving mini-missions (waiting for their calls) attending the conference; and three prospective sister missionaries.

Leading the music was Elder Park and Elder Moses conducted the meeting. (sitting next to President Gamiette and the AP's, Elders Jones and Palmer)

Our tallest and smallest (Stewart, Sookram, Wilkins, Nielson, Palmer, and Jaipaul............and the prospective sister missionaries--Sister Mentore, Gaspar, and Jaipaul!

Ready to listen and participate!

Elders Daines and Scott.........................and Elder Morris

Sister Gamiette visited with us. And also Nurse Ellison, with Elder Palmer, demonstrated some good health ideas. This was a great way for both of them to share and be part of our zone conference.

Elder Palmer and Elder Jones (our AP's) are instructing us on recognizing the spirit and teaching with the Spirit. President Gamiette teaching us how to ask questions effectively--using the scriptures to do so! (Elder Moses listening attentively!)

Brother Chin has been providing the lunch at zone conferences for ten years! A wide variety of food and plenty for the whole group--and we enjoyed!

During the break: wonder what story Elder Collins is telling President Gamiette? Others in deep discussion.

Elder Handly and Elder Lingren (both were in the office and one time)......Elder Jordan and Leon just wanted their pictures taken with the prospective sister missionaries (!)

Elder Daines at the piano for a special number......Elder Jones thinking or just soothing a headache (?)

Our own Linden Leaders, Mark Rodney and Simeon Forde with President Gamiette. And then, up close and personal....Mark is only 19 with a marvelous testimony of the Gospel and Simeon is 26--loves every moment of learning and uses his wisdom. Mark has been a member since June and Simeon just a couple months. Both are really loved in our groups and will be great leaders.

Waiting for interviews with President Gamiette......and just waiting! (with Elder Williams--who was in the office with us in Trinidad)

Canje group and others--ready to go! Other elders just having their pictures taken while waiting!

It was a great zone conference; we always come away with new ideas and ready to go!
